Costing a Proposal
The section provides guidance and advice on how best to cost a proposal. The following pages will provide information on how to estimate the time spent over the life of a project, what to include as part of the Full Economic Costing, as well as the pricing policies. For the completion of accurate staff costings, please contact your Research Development Manager as early as possible.

The full economic cost of a project needs to be calculated to establish the full cost to the University of undertaking the activity and research. The FEC includes all direct and indirect costs such as depreciation, space, central services and a contribution to investment in the University's infrastructure.
Calculating the costs of your research
When costing your proposal, you should consider the time it will involve, including project management time, supervision of research assistants, time spent preparing and presenting conference papers, writing project reports and papers.
