Training for impact
To support and encourage capabilities in impact development, the Impact team offers bespoke training workshops, surgeries, and 1-2-1s to researchers across the University.
We also offer introductory impact modules for PhD students and early career researchers – delivered with the Doctoral Research College. These sessions support researchers to identify impact pathways and explore working with external partners to create impact.
Doctoral Research College (DRC) Impact training for ECRs/ PhD students
The Impact Team runs a 2-hour introductory module focused on helping PhD students think about their research and ways that they might work with external partners to create impact. The course may also be useful to ECRs who are unfamiliar with impact.
Externally, we would recommend the following:
- : Online only free course that is pre-recorded (not live). In 4 hours per week, for 3 weeks, this course from the University of Glasgow provides bite-sized videos, long- and short-form articles, audio, and practical activities. There is a free course open to all and FutureLearn is available to all UoR staff. Note that the course is timed, such that you can only complete one 4 hour module each week.
- : This free online course can be started at any time and consists of an introduction and five weekly steps. Each step includes a video and a short reading and takes 10 to 20 minutes to complete. At the end of each step, tasks are set which can be completed within your specific area of research before moving on to the next section.
Ethics
The Impact Team and academics have created a to review current guidance and standards for the ethics of our impact activities, ethics of working with external stakeholders (vulnerable groups, in particular), plus evidence collection for REF2029. Our Impact 101 course walks you through tools and route to achieve impact at the 伊人直播app; including Public Engagement with Research (PER), Participatory Action Research (PAR), Knowledge Exchange (KE), and Policy. All resources, teams and specific contacts are provided in a 20 minute digestible format.
