Networking for Knowledge Exchange

Networking for Research and Innovation

Collaboration lies at the heart of research that changes the world. Building the right connections, internally and externally, can open doors to new ideas, fresh perspectives, complementary expertise, and impactful partnerships. At the 伊人直播app, there is a vibrant and growing community of interdisciplinary networks can help you find the right people to connect with.

Connecting through internal networks

Our University is home to a number of established and emerging interdisciplinary networks that foster connections across Schools, Departments and Research Divisions. These 伊人直播app-led networks bring together researchers and professional staff with shared interests, often cutting across traditional academic boundaries to enable new thinking and collaborative approaches.

These networks also serve as a bridge to the outside world, enabling members to engage with external partners, respond to policy challenges, shape national and international agendas, and co-develop innovative solutions with business, government, and civil society.

Some of our active and growing networks include:

  • – An internal forum to share AI-related expertise, tools, and best practice.
  • –  An interdisciplinary collaboration focused on tackling the financial aspects of climate and environmental change. The cluster explores how to adapt to increasing physical risks from extreme weather, finance the transition to Net Zero, and support the shift towards Nature-Positive Finance that addresses biodiversity loss.
  •  - Collaborating with the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust to nurture excellence in education, research, and innovation within a sustainable and inclusive community benefiting the health of the people of Berkshire and beyond.
  •  – Government, industry, academia and the Third Sector working in partnership to support and raise the profile of the UK’s world-leading climate science and services community.
  •  – Exploring complex systems thinking and futures methodologies to address long-term global challenges.
  • (TV:AI Hub) – Bringing together AI researchers and regional businesses to support innovation and growth in AI technologies.
  • (TVBE Hub) – Connecting built environment researchers with businesses across the region to support innovation and collaboration in sustainable design, construction and placemaking.
  • – A cross-service team, which enables research innovation by providing sustainable support for Digital Humanities projects.

Additionally, many Schools and Research Divisions host their own cross-cutting research groups or forums that enable interdisciplinary thinking and nurture partnerships.

These networks can help researchers identify collaborators, co-develop funding bids, and unlock new opportunities for consultancy, contract research, commercialisation, and impact generation.

Effective networking for collaboration

Networking is more than simply meeting people - it's about building relationships based on mutual understanding and shared goals. Whether you’re at an early stage of your career or leading a research centre, developing a strong network can help you:

  • Find interdisciplinary collaborators
  • Access funding and business engagement opportunities
  • Stay up to date with policy and regulatory shifts
  • Grow your visibility as a thought leader
  • Co-create solutions with external partners

Taking an active approach to networking will help you build the connections needed to develop your research and increase its impact. Joining internal networks, engaging with peers across disciplines, and attending relevant external and industry events are all valuable ways to grow your network. While not every opportunity will lead directly to collaboration, each connection can broaden your perspective and open future doors. If you're unsure where to start or would like advice, your Business Relationship Manager can help you think through your approach and signpost potential opportunities.

Tools to support your networking

To support networking for research and innovation, we provide access to digital platforms and tools to help you discover expertise and make new connections.

  •  - A UK-wide discovery and collaboration platform, designed to connect businesses, universities and researchers. Konfer allows external organisations to search for academic experts, research projects, equipment and services. Researchers can use it to increase the visibility of their own work and explore partnership opportunities.
  •  - An international open innovation platform that connects researchers with global industry and academic partners. Crowdhelix helps researchers find collaborators for Horizon Europe and other funding opportunities, share expertise, and join themed communities focused on real-world challenges.
  • Pure - Our institutional research management system provides searchable profiles for academics and their outputs, helping others within and outside the University to identify potential collaborators.
  • LinkedIn and Professional Networks – Staff are encouraged to maintain up-to-date professional profiles to support informal networking and strengthen the University's presence in sector-specific communities.
