Summary module description:

This module deals with the principles of pedagogy and subject knowledge across the core and foundation subjects in the National Curriculum and the areas of learning of EYFS.ÌýThe module supports the trainee in demonstrating the knowledge, attributes, skills and understanding to become a qualified teacher with a specific focus on subject knowledge.


Aims:

To support trainees to develop the pedagogy and subject knowledge to teach NC subjects and EY areas to enable them to develop robust evidence to address the Teachers’ Standards at the level expected of a trainee at the end of their training and necessary for the recommendation for the award of QTS.


Assessable learning outcomes:

On successful completion trainees will be able to:




  • To develop the pedagogical, curricular and subject knowledge of the Teachers’ Standards at the level expected of a trainee at the end of their training programme and necessary for the award of QTS

  • To demonstrate commitment to developing their subject knowledge through submission of all specified formative and summative tasks.


Additional outcomes:

To demonstrate proficiency in the fundamental skills in literacy and numeracy.


Outline content:

University based taught sessions and supported School Experiences will develop subject knowledge and knowledge and understanding of subject specific pedagogy, in order to provide evidence towards achievement of the Teachers' Standards at the level expected of a trainee at the end of their training programme and necessary for the award of QTS.


Global context:

Trainees would be expected to put into practice all they have learnt with regard to global awareness into their school experiences.


Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

University sessions will focus on developing knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning, as well as subject knowledge.ÌýÌý In school, the trainee will work alongside an experienced teacher and will implement the ideas and principles met during the taught sessions. They will learn through practical experience, discussion, reflection, and teacher feedback.
